The non-stop raids and kidnapping of citizens of Oswego county has impacted dozens of families across our area, separating parents from their children and leaving many families without their primary breadwinners. Many of these families do not even know where their loved ones are, as detainees are being shuffled around through the system so quickly that the detainee locator tools are not up-to-date.
At this point, it appears that all of those who have been detained have been taken out of New York.

Though these workers are an integral part of our community, our sheriff’s department used Oswego County resources to support their capture and detention. I am calling today to ask you to support the NY4All act, which would prohibit state and local law enforcement resources from being used to further the federal roundup of immigrants.

Federal  budgets continue to poor millions of taxpayers money to ICE and Border Patrol operations. They do not need our local police forces to do their dirty work. Local law enforcement should serve our communities, not tear families apart. Please support NY4All.

Many of the kidnapped by ICE live with their spouses, children, and other family members in Oswego County; some are US citizens. Many of these detainees have work permits, pending immigration matters, and a legal right to be in the United States. They work hard. They pay taxes. And they are part of our community, and they are becoming American Citizens legally. 

I’m calling to ask why the Oswego County sheriff’s department used our resources to support any raid in any county. My tax dollars are supposed to fund law enforcement for my community. Those resources should stay here, not be used to further the federal administration’s anti-immigrant agenda.

Our taxpayer monies continue to funnel into DHS, ICE and Border Patrol operations.   We are headed for a drastic budget shortfall here in the county, and our limited resources should be put to work for our community. We don’t need to be doing the federal government’s dirty work.

I urge you to support the No Collusion resolution that has been proposed repeatedly to the County Legislature. Our county does not have a signed 287(g) agreement authorizing such collaboration, so our law enforcement agencies should not be providing this kind of assistance. [For mayors, ask them to support a resolution prohibiting the city police department from collaborating in immigration enforcement matters]
